FAQ During Closure

The Callander Public Library remains closed to the public to support efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The library is currently offering curbside pick-up of library materials and is offering virtual programs only.

We are taking several steps to support you as much as possible during this temporary closure. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions we’ve received.


How can I return the items I have checked out?

You can now return items in the drop box at the library. Please follow physical distancing rules while doing so. There will be no fines for overdue items.


What if my items are due? Will I be charged late fees?

If you have books and other materials checked out right now, you will not be charged any fines during the closure of the library. Don’t worry about the due dates listed in your account. Fines will be removed as books are returned to the library.

Are there any library services I can use from home?

  • Curbside pickup is now available at the library. For information on curbside pickup services and to place an order for pickup, click here.

  • All of our online services (including eBooks and eAudiobooks) are still available and can be accessed from anywhere with internet access using your library card. You can find out more about them here.

  • Some programs are now being offered virtually, including knitting club and morning book club. For more information on how to join these programs, contact us.


What if my holds are ready for pickup?
If you have holds, staff will call you to book a curbside pick-up appointment when your holds are available.

Can I apply for a library card?

Yes. If you live in the Municipality of Callander please fill out the membership form, here. We require that you provide us with a photocopied or scanned piece of mail with your Callander address on it to prove you are a current resident of Callander, as well as a copy of your Driver’s License. You can email these documents or leave these items in an envelope in our book drop.

A resident of Callander is someone who meets one of the following criteria:

1.You own a home

2. You pay property tax to the Municipality of Callander

3. You rent a residence within the boundaries of the Municipality Callander. Staff will contact you when they have received your application for membership.

Can I apply for a Non-resident Membership at the Callander Public Library?

At this time we are not accepting new applications for non-resident memberships, but current approved non-resident members may renew their memberships and pay the $40.00 fee by sending a cheque in the mail to the Callander Public Library.
